Corded Yarn Baskets. Functional Crafting!

Making a corded yarn basket with your left over yarn is a perfect way to clean up your crocheting or knitting area. You can create this basket for as cheap as you can obtain cotton cording. It is fast, fun, and rewarding. A perfect container for a gift or even for toting your lunch in. For all practical purposes, the technique that you will learn here can translate into whatever you imagine.

Supplies -
Cotton cording - any size or gauge, whatever is your preference
Scrap/Leftover Yarn
Sewing Needle & Thread
Super Glue

Starting the cord -
Let me start off by noting that when you are using super glue, use very little. If you get the decent glue, you will not need very much to make it stick.
*** Dab a small amount of super glue at the end of the cord and place the yarn in order to cover the raw end. You will see this part in the final product so make sure it is acceptable for your use.

*** Start wrapping the yarn around the cord making sure to glue ever 10-12 inches for added security.

*** When switching colors, glue the yarn in line with the cord to cover all ends. Do the same with the new color and continue wrapping.

*** Never cut the cord that you are working on. This will cause many problems that you do not want to deal with!
*** When you have wrapped enough cord to complete you project, cut off the cord and finish off as you started.

*** Curl the end once and sew SECURELY. This will be the bottom of the basket and will need as much support as possible.

*** Continue to wrap and sew the cord in the position that you need. Sew the cord in between the rows in order to hide the thread.

*** Handle or no handle, your choice. If you want to make a handle, I would suggest the twisted handle as shown. It is beautiful and strong.

Now enjoy your creation! Use it to store more scraps of yarn in order to make another basket, fill it with coins, take it on a picnic!

Let me know if you try it or if you have any questions. I am always happy to help!

An Ode to Snoodle

Oh Snoodle, you have brought me so much joy. So much that I thought I would write about my happieness when your name in mentioned. Snoodle, the older you get, the more cuddle worthy you are. There is something special about a lonely prototype that turns out stupendously.

You are better than a 1980's Pound Puppy.

Snoodle, you are my essential comfort. And you smell really really great!

One crazy night

I know that this is not what it seems. It is now daybreak and I welcome the new day. The night was interesting to start off with. A birthday party, seemingly innocent, but cruel and unusual punishment administered by my loving husband. Now, normally, I am ok with that, but not tonight.

I went to bed while he was arguing with the people from the satellite company. Another bad idea. Nightmares were all around me. I woke violently three hours after I laid my head down, thinking someone was in my face screaming at me that "it was all... your... fault!" CREEPY. I woke my endearing husband to help me get over the episode, but all he does is huff and turn on the TV... That is a weird reaction to "babe? Um, I am totally freaked, make me feel safe..." MLB TV, oh yeah, that makes a woman feel really safe. Wtf.

After I have indulged in and infomercial for a half hour, Ludo, my cute 85 lb. bird dog, starts going bonkers. Now, let me state for the record that I KNOW that we do not have ghosts in the house. But it sure didn't seem like it at the time. The husband freaks out on the dog that is freaking out about being fed at 4 in the morning. Amazing combo in fascinating proportions. They are both like little kids.

Regardless - as I sit awake at 5 something in the A.M. I decide to jump into the wonderful world of blogs. Wish me good luck...
